It doesn't escape him that, on both Asgard and this ship, he never felt like he really had anyone to truly speak with; despite his silver tongue and his innate charm, he never kept steadfast friends. Always too cautious, always too withdrawn, never as sociable as most -- his flaws that kept him from being able to connect in the way that most could.
The only person he would feel like talking to on the Thor would be Amelia, and even then he feels like it would be nothing more than banter. A slight annoyance on her part.
He doesn't pity himself for it (though he's no stranger to self-pity at all), but rather ignores it altogether. He sends her a text, out of the blue with little context.]
Do you keep items of sentiment in your room?
text
She was in her room (which she appropriately enchanted to make a greater living space than was actually there) and lounging on a chair. Amelia takes her Guide in one hand, book in another to view the text. It surprised her really, to see who the sender was. Of course the question struck her as odd, but as of now there didn't seem to be any harm in answering it.]
I wasn't fortunate to have most of the artifacts my mentor collected along with my own objects. I do have a few that I keep close by though.
[Short and to the point. She decided not to ask why he wanted to know. The Emerald Witch figured she would find out soon enough.]
text
What kind of sentiment? Nostalgia, happiness, or melancholy?
[A strange question, but it was the heart of the matter.]
text
I would say it's a combination of all three.
And to be more truthful, the sentiment can be painful too.
text
I suppose you think these are strange questions. Forgive me, I'm simply trying to figure out where to place certain things.
[Figuratively and literally.]
text
[It's a simple reply, one that usually would be read as impatient and yet this was not the case right now. It was actually very melancholy in itself. She's finding it difficult to explain without divulging much more personal information. Not too far away from her, the glowing red rose in its glass orb glimmers on top of a bedside table. Most days it gave her peace to know that it was nearby and simply there.
There's a flickering ache all of a sudden.]
text
I see.
They're flowers, if you were wondering.

video
See for yourself.
[He turns the guide in the direction of the flowers, which sit in the middle of a table.]
video
Those are rather lovely. What was the occasion?
video
There was none. My brother simply sent them to me, to tell me things he could never say out loud.
video
I see.
You're not going to throw them away?
video
I want to.
[And yet they're still there. He turns the feed back to face him, and he doesn't bother keeping his smile.]
You would think I would gravitate towards lies, wouldn't you? Being who I am. The Trickster, the Liesmith. But these? These, I just want to burn.
video
But you haven't.
video
No. I haven't; their sentiment, though misplaced, is... hard to ignore.
[He loves what lies they represent, but he hates the fact that's all they will ever be.]
What would you do, Amelia?
video
You could turn those into something smaller, something more compact. [She snaps her fingers when an idea comes up]
Ah. You could make the flowers smaller and store them in a locket.
Re: video
A locket? That seems more sentimental than their current form. And yet out of sight and out of mind...
[He seems to be considering it.]
Re: video
Forgive me if I'm stepping over the line here, but if you haven't thrown those flowers away, it just means you still find something important concerning your relationship with your brother. Don't... throw it away.
... I'll stop there if you wish. I hope you consider the idea with the locket though.
video
Important? Yes. But there are different kinds of important, as I'm sure you know. This is the type that perhaps rubs me the wrong way.
We'll see. Either way, I thank you for your advice.
video
You're welcome. I didn't mind at all.
[This was the truth. There's no hint of irritability or insincerity in her words.]
video
I'll leave you be, then. Until next time.
[And he ends the feed.]

Backdated Thread/Mistletoe Continuation
Is it too inaccurate of a description?
[Pacing back and forth as she speaks to him, keeping her eyes on the mistletoe... nope, not letting her go]
no subject
Perhaps not strong enough of a word, but it is not inaccurate.
[he did try to kill him that one time. or at least hurt him quite badly.]
no subject
[Okay, she's not going to get anywhere by just prolonging the conversation so...]
... And I... will be needing some assistance. I'm not getting anywhere standing around like this.
no subject
[That was blunt, but he's much more in favor of dropping it for the latter statement.]
Are you asking for a kiss, Amelia?
no subject
No, I'm asking you to bite off my nose.
[Said very humorlessly, but then again she doesn't need to put in effort to sound like that more than half the time]

[Not like she had to twist Loki's arm about it, though. He'll walk briskly up to her, and not giving her much time to prepare (it wouldn't be as much fun otherwise), he lifts up her chin with one hand and leans in for a kiss on the lips. Of the lingering sort. She can probably feel the edges of his lips curling upwards as he does so.]
1/2
It's very troubling when she feels the need to enjoy herself and when taking the person she's kissing into consideration...
She doesn't exactly kiss back, but when she feels the movement of his lips curling up, and the lingering there's this unexpected jolt in her heart and mind. In the head there's a nagging thought of how this isn't really right, but there's that feeling in her chest that makes this feel not wrong in a way...]
no subject
Sort of.]
That should be fine, thank you.
no subject
Parted, he looks down at her with a scrutinizing eye.]
You are most welcome. Can you move?
no subject
[Taking a few steps backwards, and success! She breathes a sigh of relief.]
Finally.

[Because she didn't let it :V]

[calling her on it]

I... Well, of course I wasn't going to let it last!
no subject
Oh? Why? Did you not enjoy it? I noted that you weren't very receptive.
no subject
I just don't usually kiss friends in that manner or... kiss anyone I think of in a platonic fashion in such a manner although it was necessary this time.
[Rationalize, rationalize, rationalize]

[he's just messing with you, Amelia, to see your reaction.]

Alright. Fine. I'm thinking too hard about this. Thank you for your help, happy holidays, let's continue this conversation, never.
no subject
I do not believe I've seen you like this, Amelia. Perhaps you enjoyed the kiss more than you let on?
no subject
What did I just say?!
no subject
An innocent look, coupled with a shrug!!]
